Creating rigorous and engaging learning activities for secondary students in English Language Arts and English language learners.
English Language Arts
Multimedia Assessment

Problem:
Students require exposure to diverse literature and are motivated by rigorous learning experiences and interaction with peers.

Solution:
Designed a timed essay task focusing on analyzing tone, mood, and foreshadowing within In the Time of the Butterflies, fostering deep comprehension and facilitating peer discussion.

English Language Arts Writing Assessment

Problem:
Students struggle to include literary devices, and justify their claims. I assigned To Kill a Mockingbird as this text helps students not only identify key literary devices, but see how these devices enhance the readers' experience.
Solution:
I created a timed-essay assessment that allows students to demonstrate their knowledge of the text by creating an argument, and justifying this argument through analyzing literary devices in the text.

English Language
Arts Speech
Assessment
Problem:
The English team needed students to organize their thoughts, practice public speaking, and create solid arguments.
Solution:
I wrote an Animal Farm assessment requiring students to write and deliver a speech, organize their arguments, include evidence from the text, practice rhetorical appeals, and justify claims.
English Language Arts
Creative Speech
Assessment
Problem:
Students struggled with analysis, critical reading, crafting and justifying arguments, and implementing literary rhetorical devices.

Solution:
I wrote an analytical speech assignment, allowing students to use their creativity and writing skills to create an analytical speech on an aspect of Brave New World. Students crafted an original argument, and supported their argument with literary and rhetorical devices from the unit.
